ART STUDIO:
ART LESSONS: Grades K-12 and beyond
ART MATTERS TO STUDENTS of all ages whose schools have drastically cut back opportunities to learn about and create art. We offer after school art experiences in which children create art using a wide variety of professional grade materials under the guidance of an award winning artist and educator, Teresa Christmas,
who earned her master of art education degree from WKU.
Christmas taught art in elementary schools for more than a decade before she opened Art Matters in 2011.
At Art Matters, young artists are supported and encouraged not only to create, but to learn, appreciate and draw inspiration from artists throughout history and from around the world.
Choices are provided, differentiated learning takes place.
Group sizes in the after-school art program are
seven students or less.
New enrollees may pay per semester or monthly installments of $80. A wide variety of materials are included.
The after-school art program at Art Matters takes place, September through May, each school year.
Art Matters provides a variety of Themed Art Sessions during the Summer months.

AT ART MATTERS:
This is Art Matters
THE GUS COLLINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Yandell "Gus" Collins, (the grandfather of a beloved art student at Art Matters, Kate Warren,) was a prolific artist!
Gus had an art exhibit during one of Art Matters' very first Gallery Hop Events. He sold some pieces and he was thrilled. When this beloved artist passed away on February 16, 2015, at the age of 82, his family began to contribute to the scholarship fund in his name. They later had a wonderful fundraising event and sold many of his amazing paintings, which continued to fund the Scholarship Program that allows children who love art, but cannot afford art lessons, to attend Art Matters for free. This is very enriching for us at Art Matters and we hope to always continue the scholarship program, remembering Gus Collins and spreading the joy and color and love for art and children that he had. Young Artists and their families may request a scholarship and we will do our best to comply with full or partial tuition.
Because our current school year enrollment is already full, scholarships have already been awarded at this time.
Since we have downsized, we have fewer of these, but we will provide scholarships this summer, so

ART MATTERS TO EVERYONE.
Art Matters has provided art workshops for gifted and talented students in the Bowling Green City Schools District.
Art Matters has provided professional development training- Integrating Art Across the Curriculum- for private schools, for the Warren County Public School System and even for the International Arts Center in Beijing, China.
Art Matters has provided art activities for The Annual Kentuckiana Girl Scouts Festival of the Arts
and for Montessori Schools.
Art Matters provided an art activity, "Inspired by Claude Monet" to farmers, food and health equity workers, front line food service staff and justice professionals from across the State of Kentucky at an Equity in Health & Food Women's Retreat, which was sponsored by Needs More Acres Farm and took place at the Barefoot Republic in September of 2021.
Art Matters has provided many art activities for adults over the years, but they are not the typical "Sip and Paint" sessions.
Our sessions encourage creativity and originality.

In keeping with our mission statement to "teach tolerance and promote peace through exploration of art across cultures and eras," Art Matters will continue to provide art experiences in which children can not only create art and learn about art, they can also connect art to real life issues that young people care about.

In 2011, Art Matters Community Studio began on State Street
in Bowling Green.
Five years later, we moved to Main Street.
In 2020, we moved our location again, this time away from the downtown area.
We now spend more time outdoors, when weather permits, on a partially wooded acre,
so that we can focus more on nature.
